Teaching a Beginner’s Class in Floral Design

The Legend Chiang Rai Resort

Chiang Rai, Thailand

April 11, 2012

Marc Dumur, the General Manager of The Legend Chiang Rai Resort, invited me to teach a beginner’s class on floral design to the hotel staff.

Sayamol Aromtang, the Manager of Human Resources there, arranged the details and met me when I arrived after the three hour drive by car.

In class, the students told me the kind of arrangements they each wanted to create. They began each design. I showed them how to do the finished arrangements. As they watched, they worked with me to complete each arrangement. When we finished a design, each student continued and did another similar arrangement.

Some designs were very, very small. I showed how something small can still have good design.

Most of the flowers and all the greens were from the resort’s gardens.

Here are photos of the class and some of the flowers that were designed.
